What is the Scout Network - aimed at new
members and recruitment
There are lots of new changes affecting the Scout Association in the
UK at the moment. One development is the implementation of a new programme,
incorporating new age ranges for the youth sections of the movement. The
Scout Network is the new section for young people aged 18-25. Please use
the links on the left hand side to explore this Website and find out more
about the Fife Scout network.
All full members of the Movement between 18 and their 25th birthday will
become members of the Scout Network following the transition to the new
sections. Venture Scouts / Explorer Scouts will be able to join the Scout
Network from the age of 17½.
Fife area will have a number of local "Networks" and they will
be run by the members, for the members.
What do members of the Scout Network do?
There are many different ways to be a member of the Scout Network. You
don't have to stick with one group of members and you can join in with
as much or as little as you like.
Many changes will take place during your life in the Scout Network. You
may go away to university or college, you may start new jobs and you may
get married and have children. Whatever happens, you should still be able
to enjoy Scouting because you can do the activities you want to do.
If you are a member of the Scout Network, you may want to do something
else in Scouting as well.
You could:
· be a leader in another section
· be a member of a Scouting club (climbing, sailing or drama, for
example)
· be a member of a Scout Fellowship.

Being a Member of a Scout Network
As a member of the Scout Network, you will be able to decide, along with
the rest of the Network, what you want to do - whether it is power boating,
socialising, hiking or enjoying a trip abroad. Some networks could hold
their meetings in a hall, or at someone's house, or even up a mountain!
You will be able to gain badges such as the Chief Scout's Diamond and
Platinum Awards. The highest award you can earn is the Queen's Scout Award.
This is recognised by many employers as the sign of someone that is enthusiastic,
dedicated and reliable.
A summary of how the Scout Network will work in Fife...
There is an area network. Initially offering activities once a month,
but once the foundations have been set-up the members will select when
and what activities they want to do (and organise them themselves). These
activities will be communicated to all and the members can select themselves
which activities they want to join in and what sort of involvement they
wish to put into the network.
It has been recognised that Dunfermline has a large number of Network
members and many of these have identified a wish to meet fairly regularly
to undertake activities. Therefore local networks has been established,
based within the Dunfermline zone open to all throughout Fife.
One based at the West End of the Dunfermline
The second based more central and to the east
And a Sea-scout network based at Limekilns, were other members of the
SN will be most welcome to join. It is hoped that we can expand our water-based
knowledge with this SN.
Everyone will be welcome to join any of these networks, and they may
wish to join in regularly, occasionally or one off.
There is also a Leaders Scout Network, which will cater for those who
have warrants for other sections. It's aim is to organise at least one
'fun' training event a year by identifying what may help young people
with their leadership skills (e.g. Speak Easy course). And one fun event
a year to let young leaders come together, and let their 'hair down' and
have fun and share ideas. It is hoped to have a training mentor linked
to this SN. Members of the Scout Network who do not hold a warrant will
also be welcome to join in the activities offered by this network.
